Schmidt, 37, of Luton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Schmidt of Anthon, died late Wednesday afternoon, April 24, 1946, in a Sioux City hospital of a fractured skull and other injuries suffered that morning in a car-truck collision two miles west of Luton. Peter J. Hansen, 23, of Anthon, brother-in-law of Schmidt and son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hansen, also suffered a skull fracture and died yesterday, his birthday anniversary, at St. Joseph's hospital in Sioux City. Hansen remained in an unconscious condition at the hospital except for a few minutes Monday night when he regained consciousness. The two men were driving to Sioux City to get Mrs. Schmidt who was a patient at the Osteopathic Hospital there. Ernest L. Clark of Sloan, reported as driver of a gasoline truck, sustained severe body and arm bruises and was taken to his home. The accident occurred at the intersection of the Luton graveled road with a north-south section line road. The truck was southbound in the direction of Salix and the car westbound. Funeral services for "Pete" Hansen will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Anthon Methodist Church with Rev. C.B. Wittstruck officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Peter J. Hansen was born April 30, 1923, at Anthon. Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hansen of Anthon; seven sisters, Mrs. Marie Schmidt, Mrs. Emma Schmidt, Mrs. Rose Lillie and Darlene Hansen of Anthon; Mrs. Margaret Callamore of Tacoma, Washington; Mrs. Teresa Klein of Ranier, Oregon, and Mrs. Dorothy Nelson of Luton; and two brothers, John and Tom of Anthon. He was a member of the Methodist church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Correctionville and the McNiff post of the American Legion. He was inducted January 18, 1943, and received his discharge at Camp Grant, Illinois, December 28, 1945, after army service which included combat action in Germany.
