A man named Hutzel, living in Madrid, became insane. He had suffered from an attack of the grip, and this is the only cause we have heard assigned for his insanity. He became so violent that four men were needed to take him to the jail in Boonsboro for keeping until the board of insane passed on his case. The order was to take him to the Mt. Pleasant asylum and the sheriff and an assistant started with him Wednesday. The unfortunate man had to be manacled to prevent his injuring himself or others, as he was violent all the time. On the train, near Oskaloosa, he expired. The following further particulars are from the Madrid Register of Saturday: One of the most a sad and heartrending occurrences that has happened in this part of the country was the misfortune that overtook Peter Hutzell on last Monday morning. On that morning he left home with the intention of going to Grimes to do some well boring which his partner, Mr. Poston, had contracted for. While loading the tools Mr. Poston noticed that Hutzell was acting in a queer manner, and in a few minutes it became necessary for him to obtain help to take care of him. By the time he came back Hutzell had lost his mind and reason, and was acting in a very violent manner, so much so that four men were detailed to take care of him. From this time he grew steadily worse and on Wednesday the county authorities were notified of his condition. In the afternoon Sheriff Paterson came down and took him to Boone, and yesterday morning started with him to the Insane Asylum at Mt. Pleasant. Later — Just as we go to press the news comes that Mr. Hutzell died near Ottumwa, before they reached Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Hutzell was about 50 years old and leaves a wife and a large family of children, some of which are grown. He was a member of the G.A.R. Post at this place. Mr. Hutzell was an honest, quiet and industrious citizen and had many warm friends. His family in their sad bereavement have the sincere and heartfelt sympathy of all the people in this community.
