Mr. Kruse leaves to mourn his death his wife and eight children and a number of grandchildren, to whom is extended the earnest sympathy of the community. ~~~~~~~~ Boone County Democrat March 19, 1914 Peter Kruse, one of Amaqua township’s and Boone county’s pioneer settlers and substantial farmers passed away at his home in Amaqua township Monday morning at 9:40 after a short illness from apoplexy. Peter Kruse was one of those thrifty frugal far sighted Germans who came to Boone county in the early days and to whom we owe so much for the advancement of our agricultural advantages we now enjoy, in this time. Mr. Kruse was most successful and at the time of his death was the possessor of much of Amaqua townships fertile soil. He was always an active party in matters pertaining to his locality and for several years served as school director in the district in which he lived. He was a loyal member of the German Lutheran church from childhood and was liberal in his donations to this church and its needs. He also served it as an elder for two terms. Peter Kruse was a native of Schleswig-Holstein, Denmark, now Germany, where he was born July 19, 1840. He served in the Danish army three years, later taking part in the German-Danish war in 1866. In 1866 he came to America and located in Clinton county for a short time coming to Boone county the same year. Shortly afterwards he purchased the farm on which he resided at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Margaretta Schosen before coming to America. To this union were born eleven children, three of whom passed away in youth. Those of the immediate family left to mourn his loss are his wife and children, three sons and five daughters, John, of Beaver township; Geo. of Amaqua township, and Peter on the homestead, Mrs. Maggie Hendricks, of Fairmont, Minnesota; Mrs. Katy Paulson of Adrian, North Dakota; Mrs. C.J. Heidt and Mrs. Dave Harten of Ogden and Mrs. Claus Peters of Amaqua township, forty grandchildren, three great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Jerry Bock. Funeral services were held Thursday from the home at 11:00 o’clock and from Zion Lutheran church at 12:00 o’clock conducted by Rev. Boehm. Interment took place at Zion cemetery.
