Peter John Monzel was born June 27, 1942, to Peter D. and Julliette (Solberg) Monzel of Webster in Aberdeen. He attended St. Otto's Parochial School. He graduated from Webster High School in 1960, and attended South Dakota State in Brookings from 1960 to 1966. He graduated with a business degree from Northern State College in Aberdeen in 1968. He married Rita Stee on Aug. 1, 1964, in Webster. After he graduated from college, the couple made their home in Webster. He owned the Coca-Cola Distributor Franchise in Webster and also was vice president of Pete Monzel Co., his father's beer distributing company in Webster. He later became president of Pete Monzel Company and operated it for several years. He married Pat Thomas in 1986 in Minneapolis. After their marriage the couple remained in Webster. In 1989, he and his father sold Pete Monzel Company. He then started Creative Sign Company which he operated for a short time. He was also a real estate broker and sold property in the area. In 1998, he moved to Tucson, Ariz., where he was a soil and concrete analyst for Agra-Earth and Environmental Company. He spent the summer months at Pickerel Lake near Grenville. He was a member of the Webster Jaycees, South Dakota Beer Distributors Association, and the National Beer Distributors Association. He was a lobbyist in Pierre on behalf of those organizations. He was also actively involved in the Pickerel Lake Sanitary District. Survivors include two sons, Peter Mark Monzel of Vermillion and Clifford Michael Monzel of Webster; and one sister, Julie Pinter of Roseville, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.
