Read More	OBITUARY Lifelong St. Francis, Kan., resident Peter Joseph "Pete" Kinen, 51, died Monday, Feb 11, 2013 at the Cheyenne County Hospital in St. Francis. Pete was born Nov. 10, 1961 in St. Francis, the son of Patricia Ann Gallagher and Gerard "Gary" Joseph Kinen. He was the middle son with an older brother, Phillip John and a younger sister, Megan Ann. He attended St. Francis Community High School and graduated in 1980. He was a four-year three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track. He broke a 1980 Kansa State high jump record, jumping 6 foot, 6 inches. Pete continued his football career while attending Dodge City Community College and Weber State University and studied physical education. Pete was united in marriage to Alice Faye Griffin on June 9, 1984 and to this union two sons, Tanner Jacob and Trent Gerard were born. They made their home on the family farm northwest of St. Francis, where they still remain. He was a member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in St. Francis. As early as his childhood, Pete possessed a devout reverence to land and nature. He loved being in the out-doors whether it was on the farm, or the pastures, or in the woods tracking wildlife. He practiced responsible farming and was conscientous about what he planted and how he grew it. He knew he benefitted from the earth and to everything there was a season. Skilled with the rod, rifle and bow, he was an avid if not professional hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time tracking deer, coyote, pheasant and quail throughout the seasons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerard and Patricia; and sister, Megan Kinen Morton. Pete had no one greater love than for his wife and two sons. He recently had remarked, "I've lived life because my sons are my two best friends." His adoration for Alice was filled with fidelity, devotion and love. Pete is survived by his wife, Alice of the home; son, Tanner amd wife, Meghan, of St. Francis; son, Trent of Hays; brother, Phillip of Kansas City, Mo.; numerous relatives including those in Rawlins County; many, many friends; and a beloved community. Funeral Mass was held Feb. 15 at the Peace Lutheran Church in St. Francis with co-celebrants Father Carlos Ruiz and Father Douglas Dietrich. He was laid to rest at the St. Francis Cemetery next to his father, mother, sister and three generations of Kinen farmers.
