Description	:	Boone County Democrat June 7, 1917 Saturday evening, June 2nd, 1917 at the family home, 1204 Tama Street Boone, Iowa occurred the death of Peter Leininger, one of the old settlers and highly respected citizens of Boone county. The funeral was held Wednesday from St. peter’s church northeast of Boone, Rev. Father Renier of Ames, pastor of the church had charge of the services. The funeral was held Wednesday from St. peter’s church northeast of Boone, Rev. Father Renier of Ames, pastor of the church had charge of the services. The pall bearers were: three sons, Daniel, Frank and Edwin Leininger and three sons-in-law, John Cooper, Walter Baldus and August Switzer. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery at St. Peters. Deceased had been ailing for more than a year and since about Easter time had been confined to his bed. Hardening of the arteries and anemia is given as the cause of his death. Mr. Leininger is survived by his wife and six children, they being: Mrs. Anna Switzer of Story City; Mrs. Emma Cooper of Ontario; Mrs. Ida Baldus of near Story City; Dan Leininger of Harrison township; Frank Leininger of Austin, Minn., and Ed Leininger, who lives on the old homestead northeast of Boone. One daughter, Mrs. Lizzie Baldus passed away thirteen years ago leaving a family of four small children. Those from a distance attending the funeral were: Frank Leininger, son, Austin, Minn; Frank Leininger, brother, Leland, Iowa; Lewis and Saul Heller, brother and cousin, respectively of Mrs. Leininger, and Frank Wirth of Henry county, Ill. Lawrence Rudloff, old neighbor and friend, of Boyd county, Nebraska. Peter Leininger was born in the village of Bundendahl, province of Byren, Germany, April 14th, 1844. He came with his parents to the United States when about 12 years of age (1856) and the family settled in Henry county, Illinois. Here he grew to manhood and on the 30th of October, 1869 was married to Miss Susan Heller. Shortly after the marriage he came with his young wife to Iowa and began life here in a log house, known as the Lone Star, near the east line of Boone county. Here Mr. and Mrs. Leininger lived but a short time when they acquired a farm of their own on section 35, in Harrison township, which was their home until about three years ago when the family moved to Boone. Something more than a year ago Mr. Leininger’s health began to fail and since that time his decline has been steady. About Easter Sunday her was obliged to take to his bed and has since been confined until his death came relieving him of earthly worries. In the passing of Peter Leininger we can truly say a good man has been called home. He was an upright honest citizen, good husband and loving and just father. While mourning his death his good wife and children may well take comfort from the exemplary life led by their departed relative and be happy in the thought that he died comforted by the last rights of his holy mother church.
