He was baptized and confirmed at Decorah Lutheran Church, and attended schools in Pleasant Township and Decorah. He worked his way through high school and college as a clerk at Hennings Grocery Store in Decorah. He worked as a comptroller for Litton Industries, which was later owned by Adler Co., and then Volkswagon, where he retired. He served in the U.S. Army, primarily in France, which triggered a lifetime interest in travel abroad. Peter Lowell Ramlo was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister, Mavis and other family and friends.
