Read More	Peter M. Cahill Peter M. Cahill, for the past twenty-five years a prominent business man and coal dealer of Farmington died Friday morning at the home of his son Arthur. For the past nine months he has been an invalid following a stroke of paralysis while in California. For some time he had been in a sanitarium in Glendale, but was brought home three weeks ago. For the past two weeks he had been unable to speak. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church, at 2 o’clock Sunday with Rev. G. B Smith, and the Masonic fraternity in charge. Peter Morris Cahill, was born July 26, 1856, at Wheeling, Virginia. At an early age he moved to Indiana and later Illinois with his parents. Even as a youth he was a big man of powerful build, and became a coal miner long before he was twenty-one. The family located at Douds, Iowa, when the young miner was nineteen. He worked at Douds, Laddsdale and Centerville, Iowa, and at Collinsville and Edwardsville in the Bellville, Illinois coal district. He was married to Sarah N. Findlay at Douds, January 27, 1877 and soon after leaving Centerville he became a Great Northern locomotive fireman. Returning to Iowa he located at Keokuk was C. B. & Q. fireman until the early ninties when he changed to the Santa Fe road and located with his family in Ft. Madison. They came to Farmington 1898, and opened the “Blue Jacket” coal mine which he operated until two years ago. He and Mrs. Cahill then went to California for a year, returning to Farmington just a year ago. In a short time he disposed of his coal business to his son and again they journeyed to California in less than three months he was sticken with paralysis and steadily grew worse. Left to mourn their great loss is the sorrowing wife, two sons, George of Ely, Nevada, and Arthur of Farmington, two daughters, Mrs. Anna Grey of Orange, California, and Miss Nettie of Los Angeles, and three sisters, Mary Yant of Delphos, Ohio, Ella Carlton of St. Louis; and Kathalene Selman of Los Angeles. Mr. Cahill served several terms on the town council of Farmington, and was the right man in the right place. He was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellow fraternities and the Rebekeah’s(sic) of Farmington, the Elks at Ft. Madison and B. of L. F. E. No. 301 of Ft. Madison. “Pete” Cahill, as he was affectionately called by those who learned to know him best was a big man with a big heart. He was a big man in his home and a big man among his associates.
