The passenger list for the ship Pommerania, which arrived in New York City from Hamburg, Germany on June 7, 1876 includes the following family group: Peter Maly, age 36, from Austria; wife Antonie, 32; Vaclav, 12; Marie, 8; Antonie, 6; Frant Smricka, 74. Peter and his family farmed in Skull Creek township, Butler County, Nebr. where they are listed on the 1880, 1900, and 1910 census records. The first Catholic church at Appleton was built on his land in 1877. That church was destroyed by a severe windstorm in 1890 and a second church was built on another location. Following his first wife's death Peter married (2) Teresia Daniel. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Butler County Press (David City, Nebr.), August 3, 1911, p. 1, col. 7 Death of Peter Mally Peter Mally, who resided six miles southwest of Abie and not far from Appleton church, died Sunday morning after an illness with stomach trouble. The funeral services wre held at 10 o'clock Tuesday morning in the Catholic church at Abie, Rev. Father Nemenc officiating. Mr. Mally leaves a wife and two sons. He was aged 71 years, one month and one day. He was born in Bohemia. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Same issue, p. 8, col. 2 Abie Peter Mally died at his home near Appleton last Sunday. Burial was at Abie on Tuesday.
