Peter was the son of David Devore, who was a prominent member of the church at Ripley, and whose children became prominent members of the Christian Church. Peter was the son of David Devore, who was a prominent member of the church at Ripley, and whose children became prominent members of the Christian Church. Peter embraced religion about 1837, and soon commenced preaching. All the Devores were in good circumstances, and our brother had a large farm on the bank of the Ohio River, near the village of Higginsport. With the care necessary to manage his property and a large family of children, the wonder is that he devoted so much time to the work of the ministry; yet, in the thirty or forty years of his ministerial life, he did much to build up the cause in Southern Ohio and Northern Kentucky. He was a man of great zeal, tender feelings, and, as he often said, he believed in a Holy Ghost religion. He died in triumph at his own home on the bank of the beautiful Ohio, June 7, 1877, leaving a mourning widow [who followed him soon after to the better land] and many affectionate children to mourn their loss. {Humphreys, Evan Williams "E.
