He had been ill with heart trouble the past 18 months. Mr. Olson was born in Sodra Wallakru, Skane, Sweden, on Aug. 24, 1857, the son of Ingar and Ola Swenson. He came to America in 1883, going first to Manchester, Delaware county, Iowa, where he resided for 18 months before coming to Muscatine in 1885. He had lived here ever since. He entered the monument business in Muscatine, in 1895, and continued in the same location ever since taking active charge of the business until the time of his death, despite ill health. Mr. Olson was married to Alice Redman on May 9, 1889, at St. Mathias rectory in Muscatine by the Rev. Phillip Laurent. His wife died July 3, 1934, and a son, Leo Moyne, died in 1918. He was a member of St. Mathias church, and of the Elks and Knights of Pythias lodges. Surviving are six children, Alfred, Robert, Stella and Mrs. Meisky, all of Muscatine, Nellie of Oakland, Calf., and Sister Mary Julietta of Des Planes, Ill.; one brother, Andrew P. Olson of Oakland, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Nellie Anderson of Manchester, Wash.; and one grandchild, Kathleen Meisky of Muscatine. Several nieces and nephews survive in Sweden. The body is being taken from the Meyers Funeral home this afternoon to the residence at 510 East Sixth street. The rosary will be recited there at 7:30 Thursday night. Funeral rites will be conducted at 6 a.m. Friday, with solemn requiem high mass at St. Mathias church. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. W. L. Hannon will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s cemetery.
