He became ill last July but was able to be up a great share of the time until about two weeks preceding his death. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 12 o'clock at the home in Hawarden and at 2 o'clock in the old Reformed church in Sioux Center with Elders C. Schalling and Wm. Vander Hoef of Sioux Center in charge. Interment was made in Sioux Center. Peter Van Muyden was born at Alkemade, Holland, August 9, 1866, and passed away January 12, 1941, having attained the advanced age of 74 years, 5 months and 3 days. Had he lived until next July Mr. and Mrs. Van Muyden would have celebrated their golden wedding. He grew to manhood in the Netherlands and was united in marriage with Grace Van Tol July 8, 1891. To this union were born ten children, three of whom preceded him in death. He came to America with his family 38 years ago, locating at Sioux Center and they lived there for 10 years. The family came to the Hawarden vicinity 28 years ago and lived on various farms but eight years ago he retired and came to Hawarden to make his home and has lived in this city continuously since that time. Besides his wife he is survived by seven children, Mrs. Nicholas Veldhoen and Leonard and Miss Marie Van Muyden of Hawarden; Mrs. Lambert Van Wyhe of Ireton; Mrs. Albert Vander Sluis and Mrs. Barney Okkema of Cicero, Ill.; Neal Van Muyden of Sioux Center, Two children died in infancy and Mrs. Dick Van Wyhe passed away five years ago. He also leaves two brothers, Jacob and Cornelius Van Muyden of Lemydem, Holland, and there are 25 grandchildren and one great grandchild. Mr. Van Muyden possessed a quiet and unassuming disposition and was an ardent worker in his church, when he was able. Coming to a new land in his younger days he accepted its customs and through hard work he reared his large family. He will be greatly missed by his wife who had been his companion for almost 60 years. Out of town relatives who attended the funeral were Mrs. Albert Vander Sluis and Mrs. Barney Okkema of Cicero, Ill.; Leonard Van Tol and daughters, Grace and Catherine, Mr. and Mrs. H. Van Tol, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Van Tol, Mr. and Mr a. Minard Van Tol, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Van Tol, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Faber, Mrs. Paul Lems and two children and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Van Bemmel of Doon; Mr. and Mrs. Neal Van Muyden and children of Sioux Center; Mr. and Mrs. John Ernste of Alton, and Mr. and Mrs. Dick Vander Griend of Orange City.
