Claussen, a well-known Ogden resident, whose death was announced in our last issue. The following is from the Ogden reporter: “Peter R. Claussen, Sr., one of the pioneer settlers of western Boone county and one of the large land owners of Amaqua township suddenly passed away Friday afternoon, April 3rd, of heart trouble, at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 28 days. Claussen, a well-known Ogden resident, whose death was announced in our last issue. The following is from the Ogden reporter: “Peter R. Claussen, Sr., one of the pioneer settlers of western Boone county and one of the large land owners of Amaqua township suddenly passed away Friday afternoon, April 3rd, of heart trouble, at the age of 72 years, 8 months and 28 days. The deceased had been in apparent good health until three months ago when he was taken sick with dropsy and since then had been afflicted with heart trouble. P.R. Claussen, Sr., was born July 5th, 1841, in North Staple, Schleswig, Holstein, Germany. As a young man he served in the German-Danish war under the Danish rule. He was united in marriage with Margretha Dierks, April 18, 1865, who passed away five years ago on the 15th of this month. In 1869 he emigrated to America with his wife and small son, P.R. Jr. and landed in Clinton of this state, later in the spring moving to their farm in Amaqua township, where they resided until 1900 when they moved to a farm near Ogden. For the last three years he has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Chas. Reimers. He is survived by nine children, Peter R., Jr., Detlef; Mrs. Chas. Reimers; Mrs. Henry Kruse; Mrs. John Kruse; all of Ogden; Mrs. E.E. Erapie; Miss Margaret of Webster City; F.H. and W.F. Lorenzen of Spokane, Washington; one sister, Mrs. F. Lorenzen, Sr., and twenty one grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at the Zion Lutheran Church Tuesday at 2:00 o’clock p.m., Rev. A.J. Boehm officiating and the Messrs. Nebbe, Ehlers, D. --, H. Kuhl and Arnold Boehm assisting with two beautiful vocal selections. Interment was made in Glenwood cemetery.
