Description	:	Peter R Walker was born April 7, 1887 in Norka, Saratov, Russia, the son of Johannes (John) and Christina Schnell Wacker. His family had moved to the Volga region from Germany during the reign of Catherine the Great, who had lured the German farmers there with a promise of no conscription. He married Katherine Elizabeth Bernhardt on February 14, 1906 in Norka. Shortly after their marriage Peter and Katharine, along with his parents; brothers Henry, George, and John; and sisters Katie and Emma, boarded a ship bound for America. His family had moved to the Volga region from Germany during the reign of Catherine the Great, who had lured the German farmers there with a promise of no conscription. He married Katherine Elizabeth Bernhardt on February 14, 1906 in Norka. Shortly after their marriage Peter and Katharine, along with his parents; brothers Henry, George, and John; and sisters Katie and Emma, boarded a ship bound for America. Several older siblings remained in Norka. Peter, George and John later changed the spelling of their last name to Walker; other family members retained the spelling Wacker. Peter and Katherine settled first in Nebraska, where the first of their 11 children was born. He spent several years farming in Portland, Oregon, where three more children were born. Six more were born following the family's move to Longmont, Colorado. Several years later they settled near Edison, Washington, where farmers were desperate for field help. His last child was born there in 1926. In 1930, he and Katherine moved to Burlington, Washington, where they spent the rest of their lives. Peter was a farmer his whole life. Peter died January 7, 1956 in Burlington, Washington at the age of 69 and is buried with Katherine and other family members at Green Hills Cemetery in Burlington.
