Peter Warner, so well and favorably known to the early settlers of this county, died at his home near Baxter post-office, Jasper county, Iowa on the 12th of this month, aged 87-3-1. Peter Warner, as we have stated, was e--atically a pioneer - one of the old school. That is he delighted to be in a new country, and the advance of civilization with its new ideas , new improvements and new notions, was almost sure to incite in him a desire to go further west. He was born in Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, in the year 1791; removed with his parents to Ohio in 1811; on the 20th of March 1821 he was married to Elizabeth Williams, a sister of the father of the editor of this paper, in Seneca county, Ohio and in 1834 removed to this (Kosciusko) county, where he continued to reside until 1855, when he removed to Jasper county, Iowa, remaining there until the hour of his death. Peter Warner was in some respects an eccentric character. Previous to his marriage he had been ordained as an itinerant preacher in the M.E. church, and after entering the ministry he continued to preach the gospel up to the very last hour that he was able to do so. Indeed he preached for the past few years at his own cabin in Iowa, his hearers gathering around his chair and he speaking while in a sitting posture. In 1849 his wife died, and in 1853 he married Mrs. Mariah M'Sherry, by whom he had one child (William H. Warner), who is now about 23 years of age and who remained with him up to the close of his long life. When Peter Warner came to this county he erected a flouring mill on the Tippecanoe river and was an active enterprising business man, and was known and respected by all who came in contact with him. His liberality was proverbial, and many anecdotes could be related in this particular. His house was free to all comers as the air they breathed. He built a church entirely at his own expense on his farm near this place, and every time that a "two days' meeting: was held - and these were by no means infrequent - all who came were provided with meals and horse feed free, and if they chose to remain all night, lodging was furnished in the same liberal and open-hearted manner. Now that he is gone, there will be many a sigh of regret spring from the hearts of those who read these few lines, and who many years ago enjoyed his unbounded hospitality. He has ploughed his last furrow, He reaped his last grain No sound shall awake him to labor again
