The following information was taken from Jerry's burial program on June 7, 1952: PRIVATE JERRY BROWN - The son of Mr.and Mrs. Charles L. Brown was born at Milton, Iowa, January 30, 1931. The following information was taken from Jerry's burial program on June 7, 1952: PRIVATE JERRY BROWN - The son of Mr.and Mrs. Charles L. Brown was born at Milton, Iowa, January 30, 1931. He spend his childhood on his parents' farm in Davis County, one mile west of Milton. On December 29, 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Army receiving his basic training with Co. C. 85th Infantry, 10th Division at Camp Funston, Fort Riley, Kansas. Upon completion of this training period he was granted a furlough and returned to Milton where he visited with his parents for a short time, leaving for California late in March. After spending a few days in California, Jerry left for Japan April 1st, 1949. After arrival he was attached to Co. A, 21st Infantry, 24th Division, with headquarters at Camp Wood, near Kumamata, Japan. This company has the distinction of being one of the first United States troops to see action in Korea. The following is a copied report from the files of the U.S. Army in Korea: "Private Charles J. Brown was last seen July 10th, 1950 on his way to an aid station near Chonui, just north of Choahiwon, South Korea. Company position has been under heavy attack from enemy Forces and Private Brown was wounded in the stomach. A thorough investigation and screening of personnel disclosed the above information." The wounds Jerry sustained at this engagement caused his death. he was awarded the "Medal of the Purple Heart posthumously." He received a Christian burial, interment being in the United Nations Military Cemetery of Tonggoh, Korea. Later the remains were disintered and removed to Japan, later being transferred to the united States on the Jerico Victory 1952. To mourn his passing he leaves his parents, one grandparent, Mrs. John Vorhis, uncles, aunts, and cousins. _________________________________ "Private Brown was a member of the 21st Infantry Regiment, 24th Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action while fighting the enemy near Chochiwon, South Korea on July 10, 1950. Private Brown was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal."
