Donald Hunt, has been officially declared dead by the navy after having been missing since September, 1945. Donald Hunt, has been officially declared dead by the navy after having been missing since September, 1945. Donald, eldest son of Dennis and Louise Hunt, was born December 11, 1925, at York, Neb. when he was a few weeks old, the family moved to the farm west of Exeter, where Donald lived until shortly before he enlisted in the Marines. Donald attended a rural school near home, then entered Exeter high school. After completing two years there, he went to Omaha to take employment in a garage and later with a construction company. In school he was interested in athletics and football in particular. He enlisted July 21, 1943, and then took employment at the Fairmont Army airfield until called to the service. After taking training at El Centro, Cal., Donald graduated from the bombing and air gunnery school December 4, 1944. He left for overseas in April, 1945, and was stationed on an island in the Pacific until orders came to go to China. About September 15, 1945, his group left in a plane for China. The plane never arrived and it is presumed it went down in the Pacific, all on board being lost. The search continued for a year, but those on the plane are now offiicially declared dead. Besides his parents, Donald is survived by two brothers, Darryl in the Army and stationed at Ft. Sill, Okla., Richard and a sister, Patricia. The Nebraska Signal 1946 Nebr. P.F.C. U.S. MARINE Corps. World War II.
