Read More	Pfc George Dewey Elliot is the son of Walter D. Elliott, Sr. (1881-1951) and Ida Belle Corbin (1883-1959). OBITUARY: "The Franklin Press," Franklin, North Carolina, July 15, 1948 Military Rites Held for Pfc. Elliott At Holly Springs Funeral services for Pfc. George Dewey Elliott, 25, Macon County soldier killed overseas, were held at the Holly Springs Baptist church Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Young Mr. Elliott was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Elliott, of Franklin, Route 4. The Rev. W. C. Pipes conducted the service, and military rites were held at the grave by members of the Franklin post of the American Legion, with Commander Don Allison in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. Hoyt Evans, post chaplain, and other members of the local post. Burial was in the church cemetery. Pallberarers were H. D. Corbin, Clarence Corbin, Frank L. Crisp, Roy Crisp, Norman Elliott, and Frank Elliott, all cousins of the dead soldier, whose body recently was returnded to the States. Pfc. Elliott died July 14, 1944, of wounds received July 9 in the Battle of Normandy. He entered service as a volunteer in March, 1942. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Theordore Elliott, of Olympia, Wash., and Cpl. W. D. Elliott, of the army of occupation in Japan; six sistrers, Mrs. Leonard Corbin, Miss Emma Elliott, Miss Pauline Elliott, and Miss Jewell Elliott, all of Asheville, and Mrs. Lefferts Higdon and Mrs. Charlie Williams, both of Franklin, Route 4. Potts funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
