Kirby, 29 Browning street, who died Sunday afternoon. Services were conducted by the Rev. C. K. Welch pastor of the Bethany United Brethren Church, officiating. Fort Cumberland Post, No. 13, American Legion, was in charge at the grave in Rose Hill Cemetery. The color guard was composed of Wesley H. Abrams and F. Earl Brode, color bearers were George M. Leib and William Winters. Joseph M. Fradiska, sounded taps. Pallbearers were John McLaughlin, John Lewis, Edgar Arbogast, Leonard Kirby, Thomas Gray and Carl Busey. Kirby Dies in Memorial Hospital; Suicide Verdict Issued Pfc Harry Elmer Kirby, 38, single, United States Army, of 29 Browning street, this city, died yesterday in Memorial Hospital as a result of a self-inflicted bullet wound from a .22 calibre rifle, according to Dr. Linne H. Corson, county deputy medical examiner. The Kirby family told Dr. Corson that while they were sitting in the first floor of their home they heard a shot in the bedroom upstairs. They rushed upstairs and found their brother gasping and moaning from the wound but still conscious. The shot was fired at 2:25 p.m., but Kirby, though shot through the heart, was not pronounced dead until 3:07 o'clock, several minutes after he was taken to the hospital. Kirby was home on furlough. State Police notified Army authorities last evening of the death. The investigation here is being conducted by the state's attorney's office. Among the survivors are two brothers, George Kirby and William Kirby, and a sister, Bessie. Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Bertie Davis, Wheeling W. Va.; Mrs. Mary Carter, Smithfield, Ohio; Miss Bessie Kirby, and Mrs. Elsie Wilson, both at home; two brothers, William R. Kirby, at home, and George A. Kirby, city. He was a son of the late Randolph and Hanna (Arbogast) Kirby and was a native of Eckhart. He entered the Army last March and had been in an Army hospital nine weeks before coming home on furlough.
