He had been living at the Friendship Villa in Miles City for the last two years where they were kind and loving to him. Obituary - John Henry (Jack) Laurie passed from this life on June 9, 2019. He had been living at the Friendship Villa in Miles City for the last two years where they were kind and loving to him. Jack was born in Broadus, Montana, on May 17, 1940, to his parents Francis and Gladys (Russell) Laurie. On that date his oldest brother graduated as Valedictorian and his Mom couldn’t attend. Jack attended grade schools in Miles City and graduated from Custer County High School in 1958. Jack had many friends and enjoyed his high school years. His most fun years after high school years were herding dudes at Eaton’s Dude Ranch. National Geographic Magazine had a cover shot of Jack trailing the dude string into the ranch. Jack was proud of having served his country during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Hawaii and lived in the Schofield Barracks. From there his Unit made side trips into Thailand. He had many stories to tell about serving with the Australians there. Said they were tough Aussies. Jack was a Horse Drover in the Montana Centennial Trail Drive in 1989 by special invitation where he proudly wore the beaded buckskin vest made for him by his mother-in-law. Jack liked to cowboy, liked to play guitar and sing, jitterbug with the gals, play poker and cribbage. Jack had a mail route for many years and faithfully served his customers. Cancer changed Jack’s life, but he soldiered on for several years. Cancer had weakened his body and he succumbed to pneumonia at the Holy Rosary Hospital under the compassionate care of doctors and staff. No services are planned per his request. Cremated. Age - 79 years, 0 months, 23 days
