Had been in the Service since June 6, 1944 Word was received here Thursday of last week, by relatives, from the war department announcing the death of Pfc. Lloyd C. Sparr, 25, who died from wounds received in battle on Ryukyu, and died on Okinawa on May 13th. The word was received at Norfolk by his wife Glady Noelle Sparr, who was working in Norfolk, and she notified the home folks. Clark entered the service on June 26, 1944, was sent to training at Camp Robinson, Arkansas and later transferred to Fort Ord, California, from where he was sent Pacific coast to teh Pacific Islands. Before being indcuted in the sservice, Clark and his wife were living on a farm seven miles northwest of Orchard, where they held a sale, a few months before Clark's indcution. He was sent overseas in December 1944 and was stationed at Hawaii, Leyte and parts of the Phillippines before going to Okinawa, with the 77th Division. He was on Ie at the time Ernie Pyle, famous war correspondent was killed by the Japanese. On May 5, he wrote his wife that he had suffered a leg wound. Clark was born near Orchard, and it was in this and the Venus community that he spent the greater portion of his life. He is survived by the wife, his father Fraize Sparr, two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Maynard, Orchard and Mrs. Mabel Butterfield, Star. Clark was a pleasant young man, and enjoyed a large circle of friends. When he was home on a furlough, before being sent ot the Pacific coast, Clark told the writer that he like the Army real well, and during the few months that he was in service he had taken on forty pounds of weight. This being the first fatality, reported during the war, from this immediate community, the news when received here last week spread a pall of sadness over the entire vicinity. The heartfelt sympathy goes out to all members of his family in this sad hour of their bereavement.
