Carter, age 90 of Miles City, MT passed away peacefully on December 31, 2015 at his home with his family by his side. He had celebrated his 90th birthday with all his children present two days prior. Lloyd was born on December 29, 1925 in Kingsley, MT; the son of Frank N. and Margaret M. (Weipert) Carter. He attended grade school at Duck Creek in Powder River County and graduated from Custer County High School with the class of 1944. He joined the United States Army in May of 1946 in Ft. Douglas, Utah. During his time in the military he earned the World War II Victory Medal and was honorable discharged in April of 1947. Shortly after the war he met Betty Trainer. They were married on May 1, 1948 in Broadus, MT. In spring of 1949 they moved to the Allen Brothers ranch Lloyd worked for the Allen's until 1956. They leased the majority of the Allen Brothers Ranch to raise wheat, barley, safflower and raise cattle. They farmed and ranched in the Coalwood community until 2008 when they moved into Miles City. Some of Lloyds enjoyments were visiting with friends, playing cards and most of all family get together. In early years Lloyd and Betty enjoyed going to softball games and square dancing. They were accomplished dancers and enjoyed competing in local dance competitions. After they were retired they enjoyed traveling to Alaska, Mexico and touring the Baja. They also enjoyed strips in the RV around the United States. Betty passed away on February 19, 2015 Lloyd served on the REA board for 12 years and was a member of the VFW Post #1595. Lloyd is survived by his children: David Carter of Crowley, TX; Daniel Carter of Pampa, TX; Dwayne Carter of Stanwood, WA; Donald Carter of Lovell, WY; Carol Worman of Broadus, MT; Clifford Carter of Dallas, TX; Craig Carter of San Antonio, TX; and Patricia Quiroz of Miles City, MT; twenty seven grandchildren; forty one great grandchildren; his sisters, Bernice Carey of Miles City, MT and Doris Gookin; and a brother Kenneth Carter of Broadus, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Betty in 2014. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with family receiving friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Eastern Montana State Veteran's Cemetery, Miles City, MT., with full military honors provided by VFW Post 1579. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of the arrangements.
