Description	:	CLEAR LAKE - The tragedy of war struck at another Clear Lake home Saturday morning, as Mr. & Mrs. Tom M. Hanson, 222 S. 2nd Street, received the following telegram from Washington, D.C. "The Secretary of War desires me to express his deep regret, that your son, PFC. Thomas M. Hanson, was killed in action, on September 3rd, in France. Letter follows. J.A. Ulio - The Adjutant General. PFC. Hanson had previously been wounded twice and was awarded The Purple Heart decoration. He received an injury to his eye while serving in Africa... PFC. Hanson had previously been wounded twice and was awarded The Purple Heart decoration. He received an injury to his eye while serving in Africa in March, 1943, and was hospitalized at Indiantown Gap, Pennsylvania. On July 7th, 1944, his 25th birthday, PFC. Hanson suffered a head injury in Normandy and was hospitalized in France. The Purple Heart came to his parents later that month. PFC. Hanson was born July 7, 1919, on a farm south of Clear Lake and he lived in this community almost continuously till entering the service in 1941. He trained at camps in Kentucky and California and went overseas early in 1943. He was a gunner on a tank and saw much active service. PFC. Hanson was married, his wife and daughter, Christy Ladeane, and daughter, living in Oroville, California. Besides these and his parents, he is survived by a twin sister, Mrs. Wayne Wood, two other sisters, Mrs. Henry Jacobson and Mrs. Shelby Pierce. Clear lake ; a brother, Lester, Ventura; a sister, Mrs. Charles Williams, Salina, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Glen Collinson, Oroville, California, and a brother, SGT. Allan Hanson, who was last heard from on Corsica. ********** Tommie was the son of, Tom Marcellus Hanson & Melissa Olive Benson. He was the brother of, Opal Berniece (Pierce),Leona (Collinson), Vernetta Lucille (Jacobson), Viola (Williams), Allan, Lester, & Theone (Wood).
