Description	:	CUMBERLAND,MARYLAND -- William E. Riddle, 80, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born on Sept. 27, 1921, in Jenkins, Ky., he was the son of the late Lloyd and Margie (Bolling) Riddle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee (Lippold) Riddle. Mr. Riddle was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland. Riddle, 80, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at Sacred Heart Hospital. Born on Sept. 27, 1921, in Jenkins, Ky., he was the son of the late Lloyd and Margie (Bolling) Riddle. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee (Lippold) Riddle. Mr. Riddle was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cumberland. Mr. Riddle was a self-employed barber until 1969, and he also worked for Stroehmann's Bakery, where he retired in 1984. He was an avid mall walker until 2001, when he became ill. Surviving are two sons, David H. Riddle Sr. and wife Patricia, Cumberland, and William E. "Gene" Riddle Jr., Finzel; one daughter, Norma Jackson, Georgia; four brothers, Harold Riddle and wife Ethel, Brandon, Fla., Darrell Riddle and wife Pauline, Riverview, Fla., Edwin Riddle and wife Jean, Eolia, Ky., and Ellis Riddle and wife Carole, Owensboro, Ky.; two sisters, Evelyn Cantrell and husband Ezra, Pound, Va., and Wilma Lambert, Abingdon, Va.; three grandchildren, Amy Riddle, David Riddle Jr., and Angela Riddle; one great-grandson, Connor David Riddle; one great-granddaughter, Hailey Grace Jenkins; a caring sister-in-law, Regina Raley, Finzel; and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 8:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church on Tuesday at 9 a.m. with Monsignor Thomas Bevan as celebrant. Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone. Military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard.
