Read More	Mrs. Phoebe Birdsall, one of the best known and beloved women in Emerson, passed away at her home in Emerson, Thursday, January 31. She had been in very poor health for some time past, so that death was not unexpected and he loved ones were with her during her last illness giving her every comfort and care possible. Mrs. Birdsall was one of those rare good women who to know was to love and may a heart aches as they realize that this friend has gone from among us. funeral servcies were held at the late home in Emerson, Saturday afternoon t 2:30 o'clock conducted by a former pastor, Rev. E. A. Moore, assisted by her pastor, Rev. R. V. Felt. Clara Thorson and Mabel Honeyman sang. Burial was made in the Emerson Cemetery. Phoebe Anson Burton was born in Otsego County, New York, July 27, 1839 and died at her home in Emerson, Iowa, January 31, 1924, aged 89 years, 6 months, and 4 days. On April 10, 1855, she was united in marriage to Henry Birdsall, who passed away March 13, 1898. To this union seven children were born, two of whom, Mrs. J. T. Ward and Ardella have preceded the mother in death. She was educated in the public schools and the Macedon Academy of Macedon, New York, finishing her academic course at the early age of fifteen. She never lost her interest in educational work. Too after their marriage she was her husband left the old home in New York and came to Henderson County, Illinois and established their first home. For a time then she taught a private school. there is a little country school house, she with her companion were converted and united wit the Methodist Church. Her's was the hospitable home for early itinerant ministers of her day. Her religion has been her constant solace through all these years and the example of a well spent life, her legacy to her family and friends. In March 1878 with her husband and family and family moved to Mills County, Iowa, settling on a farm south of Emerson. Then March 1898, she came into town to make her home through her declining years. Those of her immediate family that will say miss her are E. B. and Will Birdsall of Emerson, Iowa; Horace of Claremont, South Dakota; Mrs. Addie Martin of Hastings, Iowa, Mrs. Frank Wallace of Glenwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and a dearly loved sister, Mrs. Addie Birdsall, who has shared her home for many years.
