Description	:	Philander Davis was born in Lake Pleasant,Hamilton Co.,N.Y.,September 6,1817. At the age of seven he moved with his parents to Madison,Ohio. A few weeks after arriving in Madison his mother died. He was then bound out to Mr. Baley. He lived with Mr. Baley until he was married,in 1843,to Eunice Phrasia Talcott,who still survives him. Ten children were born to them.The oldest son, Algernon B.,died in the army in 1864. Nine children are now living and married. In 1868 he moved to the farm on which was subsequently built the town of Alpha. Here Mr. Davis died on August 2,1890. Mr. Davis held many offices of trust and responsibility,always giving the best of satisfaction. In religious faith he was a Universalist. The funeral was held at his home in Alpha Sunday afternoon,Rev. H.J. Orelup, of the Universalist Church, of West Union, officiating. His remains were interred in the Alpha cemetery. It was one of the largest attended funerals that has ever occurred in that vicinity; many attending from West Union.
