Following a few days' illness of a complication of diseases, Philander Gaston, 93, pioneer resident of Columbiana county, died at 3:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home in Clarkson. Read More	PHILANDER GASTON, 93, IS DEAD IN CLARKSON Pioneer Resident of Columbiana Answered Death Call Sunday Afternoon - Funeral Services Wednesday. Following a few days' illness of a complication of diseases, Philander Gaston, 93, pioneer resident of Columbiana county, died at 3:15 o'clock yesterday afternoon at his home in Clarkson. Mr. Gaston was born August 1, 1829 on a farm a short distance north of Gaston's Mills one of a family of eight children. In 1851 he was married to Lucinda Conkle, sister of Jefferson Conkle, of Middleton township. The couple removed to a farm in Greene county, Ind., where two children--Mrs. William H. Crawford of Williamsport and Mrs. Nancy Rowe--were born. In 1854 his wife died and he returned to this county. Five years later he married Charity Moore, a sister of the late John W. Moore, Sr., of this city. He operated a grist and saw mill on Beaver Creek in St. Clair township for a number of years and also a four-horse delivery service, supplying feed to East Liverpool consumers. Later Mr. Gaston conducted the Gaston House in Wellsville, later known as the Commercial House, but he got tired of this vocation and returned to his mills. Thirty years ago he purchased a home in Clarkson and retired. He leaves the following children: Mrs. Charles Feezle, Akron; John C. Gaston, Clarkson; James Gaston, residing in St. Clair township. Two sisters, Mrs. E. G. Lyons, Drain, Ore.; and Mrs. E. J. Getting, Decatur, Ind., also are living. He also leaves 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Clarkson Presbyterian church. Rev. Mr. Brown, church pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in Clarkson cemetery.
