Wednesday Mr. P. J. Doty, was assisting in the livery stable of Smith Bros. He was harnessing a team for a traveler when one of the animals became frightened and kicked him in the abdomen. He was an old gentleman, 67 years of age, and not able to withstand so hard a blow though at first he did not contemplate any serious effect from it. A little later he became very sick and went to the home of his daughter Mrs. J. E. Smith, Mr. S. himself being away from home. Dr. Smethers was called very soon but it was impossible to render the patient any substantial assistance. He lingered till 5:40 yesterday morning when death claimed him in spite of the best medical assistance and kindly care. The remains were expressed last night to Waverly, Ks., for interment, accompanied by the family. Deceased leaves three sons and two daughters, and other relatives, all of whom have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their hour of bereavement."
