He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from October 13, 1943 to February 26, 1946. He was in the Seabees and trained for underwater demolition. He worked for the U. S. Post Office as a rural mail carrier, he retired in 1972. After retirement he worked part-time at a local golf course and transported cars for Ernst Auto Center.
