Description	:	Philip (Sonny) Eugene Landkammer, 72, was called home Sunday, April 5, 2009, at Clarkston Care Center, after a short battle with cancer. The third of eight children, Sonny was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Pomeroy, to Felix and Dorine Long Landkammer. He was given the nickname Sonny at an early age because most people, including his mother, called his father Phil. The third of eight children, Sonny was born Jan. 8, 1937, in Pomeroy, to Felix and Dorine Long Landkammer. He was given the nickname Sonny at an early age because most people, including his mother, called his father Phil. During his early years, Sonny attended Holy Rosary Catholic School in Pomeroy, and later attended middle and high school in Clarkston, graduating from Clarkston High School in 1956. After high school, Sonny spent a few years working for a grass company in the Tekoa-Oakesdale area. Sonny then farmed with his father. For the last several years prior to his retirement, Sonny worked for Gordon and Patty Killingsworth in Pomeroy. Sonny greatly enjoyed the outdoors, and his favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and looking for mushrooms. Sonny was also very involved with T.O.P.S., rarely missing a Tuesday meeting and holding several offices with them. Sonny never married. He is survived by his brothers, Larry Landkammer, Wayne Landkammer and wife Pat, and Steve Landkammer, all of Clarkston; and his sisters, Judy Landkammer and husband Lyle of Pomeroy, and Mary Cass and husband Lee of Clarkston. Sonny also leaves an aunt, several nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends. Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Dorine; brother Neil; and sister Esther Jean. Beneath Sonny's sometimes gruff exterior, he was a soft and kind-hearted man who will be missed by us all. The family expresses their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Clarkston Care Center for their exceptional efforts in making Sonny comfortable. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, with Mass at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary Church, 474 Sixth St. in Pomeroy. A luncheon will be held after Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic School. Richardson-Brown Funeral Home of Pomeroy is handling arrangements, and online condolences can be left for the family at www.merchantfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to the Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery Fund, the food bank in Pomeroy, the American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
