MARQUART-Phillip Marquart was born in Hohenstein, Hesse Darmstadt, Germany, June 15, 1813. He emigrated to America and settled in Ohio in 1846. He lived there nine years. In 1855 he came to Cedar county, Iowa, where he resided until his death which occurred July 9, 1897. His age was, therefore, 84 years and 24 days. He was married March 15, 1839. This union was blessed with 9 children, 4 sons and 5 daughters. Two of the children have preceded him in death. The deceased professed faith in Jesus Christ at the age of 15 years. He was then admitted by the rite of confirmation into the Lutheran church of Germany, and remained faithful to the last. At his death, he was a consistent member of the Reformed church of Tipton. the service and a large number of friends and neighbors of the deceased attending. He was a loving husband, a kind father, a good neighbor, a true friend. In all his sufferings he was patient, yet he had an earnest desire to depart and be with Christ. He died in the full assurance of hope for a better life. His Christian, childlike trust in God's saving grace is a comfort to his family and to all who knew him. The deceased was buried in Hebron cemetery Sunday morning, July 11, Rev. J. A. Huntsicker conducting the service and a large number of friends and neighbors of the deceased attending.
