HAYDEN A two car accident took place at 6:00 p.m. across from the Elmdale Motel in the 2200 block of Highway 75 on Terminal drive, within the city limits of Sioux City. Two men, Raymond LeFebvere, 24, and Darwin Wetzbarger, 24, both of Sioux City were riding in the same car and are hospitalized in Sioux City. The car driven by LeFebvere was attempting to pass in a southbound lane when a car driven by an unidentified woman pulled into the lane in front of the LeFebvere car, according to eyewitnesses. In attempting to avoid a collision, the LeFebvere vehicle swung onto the shoulder and then sideswiped a southbound automobile driven by Junior Leroy Loeb of Sioux City. He was riding alone and walked away from the crash uninjured. The death of Mr. Hayden, who was seated in the right front seat, resulted from a brain contusion and hemorrhage, Dr. Thomas L. Coriden, coroner, said Friday. The coroner said he died instantly. Philip William Hayden, who resided at 45 3rd Ave. NE in LeMars was born May 4, 1906, in LeMars. He had lived his entire life in LeMars and vicinity. Since moving to LeMars from a farm several years ago he had been employed by a LeMars Transfer Company. Deceased was married to Rozella Farmer on August 3, 1927. The couple were divorced. Funeral services were held on Monday, July 16, at the Mauer funeral chapel at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the LeMars City Cemetery. Rev. G.O. Thompson officiated at last rites. Survivors include four children: Vernon Glenn Hayden in the Navy in New Foundland; Philip Dean Hayden Jr., of Chandler, Arizona; Gerald Lee Hayden of LeMars; and Mrs. Lester (Joan) Von Hagel of Merrill. Four grandchildren also survived. Mr. Hayden had telephoned his son, Philip, that he was going to catch a plane that evening and visit the family in Chandler, Arizona. He had hired LeFebvere to drive him to LeMars to pick up his clothes for the trip. An autopsy was performed at the Larkin funeral home in Sioux City before the body was brought to the Mauer funeral home in LeMars. ~Source: The LeMars Globe-Post, July 16, 1956
