This info comes from his 1862 marriage record to Catherine Walker. Philip A. Slade, one of Pawtucket's oldest and best known citizens, died at his residence, corner of Pine and Cedar streets, shortly before one o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, in the 87th year of his age. Two years ago last fall he recieved a slight apoplectic shock from which he rallied, but never regained his former vigor. He was able to go about and last week Thursday, went across the street to Wheeler's grocery, where he remained for some time. That evening he had another slight shock, and he gradually failed, although he was able to sit in his easy chair on Monday. Wednesday morning he was unconscious and sank rapidly until death ensued. Mr. Slade was born at Slade's Ferry, opposite Fall River, on September 17, 1804, and was a son of Ezra and Lucinda Slade. He came to Pawtucket about the year 1820, and had since resided here. He went to work in one of the factories here, and was engaged for many years. He was a long time highway surveyor for commissioner (as it is now termed ) in the old town of North Providence. Pine and Garden streets were brought to their present grades under his supervision. He was also superintendent of Mineral Spring Cemetery for a long period. He had lived in the house where he died for over forty years. He was twice married. His second wife survives him, and so do a son (Andrew R. of this city) and two daughters (Mrs. Mary A. Baker of San Francisco, and Mrs. Laura Ridall of this city). Mr. Slade was a charter member of Good Samaritan Lodge, No. 8, and Manchester Eneampent No. 4. 1. 0.0.F; and had filled the chairs in both. His death leaves John L. Purinton of Hartford, Conn; the sole surviving charter member of Good Samaritan Lodge.He was also a charter member of Eureka Lodge No. 5. Kinghts of Pythias, as well as one of it's Past Chancellors, and was one of the original members of the Grand Lodge of this State. He always took great interest in both Orders, and for some years had enjoyed the distenction of being the oldest Past Chancellor in the world. He will be greatly missed by all his brethren and his relatives and neighbors. He was of a genial disposition, and was greatly beloved by young and old. He was a quiet, unobtrusive citizen, and was upright in all his dealings. His funeral will take place at his late residence next Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and will be attended by the Odd Fellows and Knights of Pythias.
