Read More	Phillip Jesse Cafferty age 74 of Mesa, Arizona, and formerly of Ames, passed away July 14, 2020, in Mesa. Phillip was born July 7, 1946, in Ames the son of Lloyd and Katie (Campbell) Cafferty. He graduated from Ames High School in 1964, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. After leaving the service he attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he met Linda Foland, they married in 1969. After Linda's death in 1980, he married Sue Mortenson in 1985. Phillip worked with his father at the Ames Nursery, until retiring in 2005. He was a member of the Iowa Nurserymen Association and the Ames Jaycees, where he had served as president. Phil believed in hard work and good luck. He expanded his father's nursery business into a landscaping firm which brought beauty and function to homes in the area. Phil loved freedom, fun, and dancing the two-step. In retirement, he lived the adventure of traveling in an RV full-time and visiting exotic places outside of the US. When reflecting upon his life, he said "I've always been a lucky guy." He's now freed to a new adventure. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Cafferty and Katie Campbell Cafferty Shaull; and his sister, Lois Jean Cafferty McWilliams. Phil is survived by his son, Jonathon P. (Maire) Cafferty of Iowa City, IA; his two brothers, Glen Cafferty of Vancouver, WA and Dennis Cafferty of Durham, NC; and his sister, Peggy Peterson of Marshalltown, IA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Adams Funeral Home and online condolences may be left to Phillip's family at www.adamssoderstrum.com In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Legion Post 37 of Ames.
