Egosque, 86, of Great Falls, a retired federal government employee and Army veteran, died of natural causes Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at a local hospital. A memorial service will be announced at a later time to take place in Nashua when his ashes will be buried next to his wife, Lorene, in Nashua Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born April 13, 1923 in the community of Phon, Montana, in Garfield County. He was the first-born son of Barney and Florence Egosque, born with his grandmother, Margaret Ingalls, acting as midwife. They lived on the Missouri River west of Haxby. He attended school at Fifth Point on the Missouri River, in a log building, and graduated from 8th grade there. In 1936, the government bought all of the acreage from the owners to make way for the Fort Peck Dam and Reservoir. The family then moved to the community of Nashua, where he continued his schooling. In April 1940, when he turned 17, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corp in Columbia Falls, MT, on the north fork of the Flathead River, where he was part of the field crew. They took night classes, cleared trees for trails, planted trees and fought fires. After six months, he returned to Nashua to live until he joined the U.S. Army. He had 13 weeks of basic training in Missouri, and then was sent to an engineering unit in Camp Anza, CA. After training there, he was sent to the South Pacific. His unit spent time in Australia, New Guinea, and the Borneo Islands. They spent seven months in Manila before going to Japan to build the runway at Randolph Field. He rotated home in February 1946, and stayed in the active reserves for three years. Phil married Lorene Sather on February 24, 1948, and they settled in Nashua and started their family. They both worked Civil Service at the Glasgow Air Force Base until 1966, when the base began shutting down operations. At that time, they transferred to Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, and continued their careers in Civil Service. Phil became an active member of the Knights of Columbus and they both enjoyed many years traveling the state, attending the KC's conventions. Phillip retired from his job in 1983, and enjoyed many years of bowling at the Elk's Club, a little golfing now and then, as well as keeping a beautiful yard and a terrific garden every year. Lorene preceded him in death on August 27, 2002, after 54 years of marriage. He is survived by his sister, Geraldine Crusch, of Polson; his brothers, Don (Dorothy) Egosque, of Miles City and John (Arlene) Egosque, of Nashua; his daughters, Jean (Dave) Pope, of Billings, Jane (George) Williams, of Molt and Janice (Jim) Stewart, of Yellowtail; grandsons, Phillip (Krista) Williams, of Billings, David (Mary), of Columbus, Ohio, Daniel Morgan, of Portland, Oregon, James Stewart, of Red Lodge and John Stewart, of Billings; and great-grandchildren Kaia, Nathan and Rhianna Williams and Elijah Stewart.
