Description	:	[*** Supposedly, the graves in Copp Cemetery were moved in the 1950s. Have not found records that tell where they were taken.] Death resulted from strangulation of the bowels which was caused by heavy lifting of household furniture, including a cook stove, all by himself. He loaded them on a wagon bearing a hayrack and at once felt ill effects. A post mortem by Dr. Hull and Dr. Bullard revealed three feet of intestinal strangulation. Mr. Walters (AKA Mr. Walter) came to Potter County, SD, from Union County, SD, and had lived in Sully County and in Potter County on his farm for six years. For the past year he had been the postmaster at Copp as well as proprietor of a small store there. [Began as postmaster on Nov. 19, 1889] He was in the process of closing his business and moving back to his farm when the injury occurred He was about 30 years old at the time of death and leaves his wife Jeannette Walter, 2 children, and brother John Walter. Grant Potts is his step-brother. [Maiden name of Grant Potts's mother was Schoonover.] His 6 month old daughter, Ruby Walter, and an infant child are also buried at Copp Cemetery.
