Description	:	Born at Kurdumanoff, Russia, son of Friederich Spiry and Louisa Jesser, to America in 1885, married December 05, 1889, at Bowdle, Edmunds County, South Dakota, to Rosina Oster. Elected in 1896 as Walworth County assessor and served for two years. In 1900 he entered the farm implement business in Java in partnership with his brother, Fred. In 1902, he was elected county treasurer and served to the end of 1906. In spring of 1903, the family moved to Bangor, the county seat of Walworth county. Read More	Born at Kurdumanoff, Russia, son of Friederich Spiry and Louisa Jesser, to America in 1885, married December 05, 1889, at Bowdle, Edmunds County, South Dakota, to Rosina Oster. Elected in 1896 as Walworth County assessor and served for two years. In 1900 he entered the farm implement business in Java in partnership with his brother, Fred. In 1902, he was elected county treasurer and served to the end of 1906. In spring of 1903, the family moved to Bangor, the county seat of Walworth county. In the spring of 1905, the moved their residence to Selby. A short time later the court ordered that the county seat be returned to Bangor, Mr. Spriy commuted daily until the end of his term. In March 1907, the family moved to Java and in 1906, he started the German State Bank then during World War I renamed the bank to the American State Bank. He was actively engaged in the banking business until his declining health forced retirement. After the death of John H Wolff in 1918, Philip purchased the Ford dealership and operated it under the name of Spiry and Sons. In 1924, he served as City Mayor. He was treasurer of the Board of Education, president of the board of trustees and during the 31 years of residence in Java held many other offices. At one time there was some pressure to name the new town "Spiry."
