Maria Elisabeth "Marillisbet" Schlägl (sometimes spelled "Schlegel") was born December 8, 1847 in Pobochnoye, Russia, the daughter of Philipp and Anna Margaret (Kildau) Schlägl. Much of the Schlägl family, including Maria's parents and siblings, immigrated to the United States in 1876, settling in Rush County. Read More	Philipp Litzenberger was born April 10, 1846 in Pobochnoye (sometimes spelled Popagena), Russia, the son of Conrad and _____ (_____) Litzenberger. Maria Elisabeth "Marillisbet" Schlägl (sometimes spelled "Schlegel") was born December 8, 1847 in Pobochnoye, Russia, the daughter of Philipp and Anna Margaret (Kildau) Schlägl. Much of the Schlägl family, including Maria's parents and siblings, immigrated to the United States in 1876, settling in Rush County. Philipp and Maria, however, were married in February 1867 and remained in Russia until they immigrated to the United States, arriving in New York on September 15, 1890. Philipp and Maria settled their family just west of Galatia, where they established their farm. They had four children altogether. Their two eldest daughters were never associated with St. Paul: Marie Catherine (born October 21, 1879 in Russia; married John Conrad Brack November 26, 1899 in Barton County, KS; died May 6, 1920 in Rush County, KS), and Sophia (born 1886 in Russia; married Jakob Ochs November 15, 1903 at the Schönfeld Evangelical Reformed Church in northern Barton County, Kansas; died 1918). Their son, Heinrich was born in Russia, and their youngest daughter Lydia in Kansas. Heinrich "Henry" Litzenberger was born in Schönfeld, Russia on December 10, 1888. Elisabeth Michel was born in Ehrenfeld, Russia on September 28, 1888, the daughter of Georg and _____ (_____) Michel. Henry and Elisabeth were married February 22, 1910 at Deerfield, Kansas, but continued to live at Galatia for a time. They had seven children, listed below. The family moved to Hoisington in 1926 and soon after to Jetmore in 1928, where they remained. Isaak was born November 2, 1910 and baptized at St. Paul on Christmas Day, December 25, 1910. His sponsors were Philipp Litzenberger, Lydia Litzenberger, and Katharina Ochs. Although he is the second baptism listed in the St. Paul register, Isaak's is the first with a baptismal date listed. He was confirmed at St. Paul on May 31, 1925, before the family moved to Hoisington. Lea Elisabeth was born August 20, 1912 and baptized at St. Paul on September 22. Her sponsors were Wilhelm and Emilie Milberger. Lea died of stomach cancer at just over three years of age, on October 31, 1915. She was buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Galatia on November 2, 1915. Katharina Maria was born March 4, 1914 and baptized at St. Paul on April 19. Her sponsors were Ludwig and Katharina Heckmann. She later married Albert Halling. Wesley was born January 5, 1916 and baptized at St. Paul on February 6. His sponsors were August Litzenberger and Amalia Karst. Elma was born September 23, 1917 and baptized at St. Paul on November 25. Her sponsors were Heinrich Miller and Lydia Litzenberger. She later married H. B. French. Mildred Lenore was born August 10, 1919 and baptized at St. Paul on September 21. Her sponsors were Georg and Klara Brauer. She later married Lloyd Bacon. Heinrich "Henry" was born August 21, 1921 and baptized October 16. His sponsors were Alexander and Elisabeth Litzenberger. Lydia Litzenberger, daughter of Philipp and Maria, was born August 21, 1891 in Otis, Kansas. She was confirmed at the Schönfeld Evangelical Reformed Church on April 15, 1906. Lydia was married on May 7, 1911 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger to Conrad Funk, who was born in Russia on August 12, 1887, the son of Adam and Christine (Weitzel) Funk. Lydia and Conrad had four children, all baptized at Emmanual Lutheran in Milberger: Paul Richard, Clara Caroline, Rudolf Wilhelm, and Elmer Roland. Conrad died of influenza on February 22, 1920. On June 24, 1921, Lydia married Wilhelm Funk, Conrad's brother. Lydia and Wilhelm had four more children. While Lydia is listed with her family as a member of St. Paul in 1910, she is identified as having "married out" of the congregation, and is not listed in any other of the parish records. Philipp and Maria had joined their daughter Sophia at the Schönfeld Reformed congregation briefly in 1906, leaving again in 1909, presumably before chartering St. Paul in 1910. Philipp died of stomach cancer on April 17, 1912. His was the first funeral at St. Paul. Maria died December 31, 1921. They are buried in the Fairview Cemetery.
