She joined the Bethel Baptist Church the year her husband did, in 1852. She died near Mount Carbon on July 2, 1876, two days before the nation celebrated its centennial. Her father was a Methodist, holding membership in the Fayetteville Methodist Episcopal Church, South. Mrs Huddleston’s mother, Mrs Paulina Platt, was one of the 13 charter members of the Bethel Baptist Church, formed in 1843 as the Fancy Hill Baptist Church, later changed to Bethel. When Mrs Huddleston’s mother joined Fancy Hill Baptist Church, it was housed in a log structure about 36 x 24 feet with a floor of good earth. That church did not have a plank floor until 1851. It was an integrated church in that some Negro slaves owned by the members had joined this church. Mrs Philo N Platt died in 1872, the year that the Bethel Baptist Church moved to Oak Hill and located in Giles, Fayette, and Kanawha Turnpike.
