Kenneth was married to Ramona Mae Pierce on Sept. 26, 1949 in Vermillion, South Dakota, and they had two sons, Mike and Bill. -------------------------------------------- Kenneth Merle Gatz, 79, of South Sioux City died Friday, Jan. 24, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Becker-Hunt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Clyde O. Pritchett of Evangelical Church in South Sioux City officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday in L'Eau Qui Court Cemetery, Niobrara, Neb., with military rites. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Gatz was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Niobrara, the son of Charles F. and Johanna (Haugen) Gatz. He graduated from Niobrara High School in 1941. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He married Ramona M. Pierce on Sept. 26, 1949, in Vermillion, S.D. He was employed with Chicago Northwestern Railroad, Nebraska State Games Park Commission, IBP, Floyd Valley Packing Co., and retired from the Jackson Public School as a custodian. He was confirmed in the Lutheran faith in Niobrara and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Niobrara. Survivors include his wife, Ramona; two sons, Kenneth M. "Mike" Gatz and his companion, Pam Rice of Jackson, Neb., and William "Bill" Gatz and his wife, Mona of South Sioux City; and two granddaughters, Taylor Gatz and April Lindberg. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles and Fred; and three sisters, Delores Glenn, Joan Klinetobe and Corrine Newsome. -obituary, Sioux City Journal (Jan. 27, 2003)
