DEATH OF MRS. DINNING Pioneer Woman of Napa County Answers Final Summons At 4:30 o'clock Thursday morning Mrs. Phoebe A. Dinning closed her eyes in death, the end coming peacefully just in accord with the quiet and beautiful life she had led. About three weeks ago Mrs. Dinning was overcome by the heat while attending to some household duties and she failed to rally to the medical attention administered, gradually failing until called to her eternal rest. Mrs. Phoebe A. Dinning was the daughter of Isaac and Margaret Howell, and was born near New York City, October 9, 1832, having reached the ripe old age of 80 years, 11 months and 9 days. With her parents she came to California 67 years ago, reaching this Western empire before the discovery of gold. On May 25, 1863 [sic], she was married to William Dinning and went right to the farm at the entrance to Dinning canyon, which for more than 60 years has been her home. Mr. Dinning died in 1888. Deceased is survived by five children - Isaac Dinning, Mrs. James Poole of Arroro Grande, San Luis Obispo county, Mrs. W. P. Frederich of Pope Valley, Mrs. Joseph Money of Conn Valley, and Mrs. Henry C. [looks like] Lulley, residing near St. Helena. There are also 17 grandchildren and three great grandchildren left to mourn the departure of one so dearly loved. Deceased was a woman of loveable disposition and endeared herself to all about her. She was always doing some one a kindness and no task was too great for her to perform if by undertaking it she could lighten the burden or make happier some loved one, friend or neighbor. She was a true Christian woman and one who carried her Christianity into her every act. She was spared many years and now that she has been taken she will enjoy that reward that is promised those who have served their Master as she has done. The funeral will take place from the family residence Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Rev. James Mitchell will officiate and the remains will be laid by the side of those of departed loved ones in the St. Helena cemetery. — St. Helena Star, Sept. 19.
