Phoebe Jane Stahl was born December 16, 1931, to Joshua and Anna (Kleinsasser) Stahl, near Yale, South Dakota. She graduated from Yale High School in 1950. On August 29, 1950, Phoebe was united in marriage to Pyrle Stahl. They lived in Huron their whole life. Phoebe worked for Rollie Sanderson at Frank's Hamburger Shop for 24 years. In 1986, Phoebe and her son Phelan rented a former laundromat in north Huron, remodeled it and operated it as Phoebe's Burgers for 15 years. Phelan and Phoebe also opened a Phoebe's No. 2 in south Huron, which they had for three years. After 39 years in the restaurant business, Phoebe retired in 2002. Phoebe and her family also cleaned the South Dakota State Fairgrounds for 15 years. Phoebe was a member of Mt. Olivet Church. Phoebe loved to sing. She sang in the church choir in her earlier years and also sang with the Dakota Harmony Sweet Adelines for 12 years. Phoebe was generous, hardworking, caring and kind. Whether you were a stranger or personal friend, Phoebe treated everyone as though they were a part of her family. If you were fortunate enough to have met Phoebe, chances are she paid you a compliment. Phoebe saw the good in everyone. She loved showing off pictures of her family and bragging about her kids and grandkids. Phoebe often made the people around her laugh as she was never afraid to say exactly what was on her mind. Phoebe loved to serve people which is part of what made her so successful in the restaurant business. If Phoebe was not scheduled to work, she normally had to be dragged away from the restaurant. She loved owning her own business and truly enjoyed just being there visiting with her customers. She was best known for her delicious homemade German soups. People would come from all around for a bowl of her soup. Phoebe was a devoted wife, loving mother, proud grandmother and friend to all. She was a blessing to all who knew her and will be forever missed. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pyrle on February 15, 2000; one son-in-law, Doug Loeschke; one sister-in-law, Morine Stahl; and one brother-in-law, Jakie Gross. Left to cherish her memories are six sons and one daughter, Percy Stahl of Zephyr Cove, Nevada, Patrick (Luana) Stahl of Huron, Page (Cindy) Stahl of Chula Vista, California, Phelan (MariKa) Stahl of Huron, Prentice (Stacy) Stahl of Sioux Falls, Preston (Tammy) Stahl of Pipestone, Minnesota and Petrea Loeschke of Sioux Falls; 14 grandchildren, Zeb Stahl, Zach (Dawn) Stahl, Uriah Stahl, Andrew and Alex Stahl, Jonathan, Ashley and Drew Stahl, Ryan Stahl, Benjamin Stahl, Jaden, Logan and Emma Stahl, and Grace Loeschke; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Sullivan Stahl; two brothers, DeLor (Delores) Stahl of Yale and LaVerne (Tootie) Stahl of Huron; one sister, Julia (John) Diede of Redfield; numerous nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, MaryAnn Gross of Huron, Carol (DeWayne) Walter of Yale and Elizabeth (Melroy) Hofer of Springfield. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Dean Gross # 49469876 provided links to parents. ~ 1-30-2018
