Steines, 81, of Preston, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 14, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton. Merrice was reunited in heaven with his loving wife, Phyllis A. Steines, 77, of Preston, who died on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center South, Clinton. Services for Merrice and Phyllis will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Preston. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Preston. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the church, where there will be a rosary service and a scripture wake service at 3 p.m. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, is in charge of arrangements. He was born on April 27, 1930, in Springbrook, son of Arnold and Clara (Weis) Steines. She was born on April 25, 1934, in Springbrook, daughter of Nick and Anna (Kilburg) Feller. They were both raised and educated in Springbrook. Merrice and Phyllis were united in marriage on May 31, 1955. They were hard workers and were employed for many years in local factories. They resided in Preston for many years and were currently residing at the Sarah Harding Senior Living Center, Clinton. Merrice and Phyllis loved spending time with their family and friends. Surviving are five children, Sue (Leon) Schmidt, of Preston, Sarah (Michael) Sparks, of De Witt, Samuel (Penny) Steines and Scott (Lisa) Steines, both of Camanche, and Stanley (Deb Milder) Steines, of Morrison, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, Leann (Travis) Long, Paul (Dana) Sparks, Craig (Amanda) Sparks, Adam (Amanda) Steines, Ashley (Jason) Lansing, Allyson Steines, Aubrey (Rich) Klahn, Emileigh Steines, Madison Steines and Grace Steines; five great-grandchildren, Dyllan, Makenzie and Lydia Sparks, and Olivia Steines and Autumn Klahn; Merrice also is survived by two brothers, Roger (Jan) Steines, of Springbrook, and Larry (Patti) Steines, of Dubuque; 10 sisters, Gwendola Till, of Maquoketa, Betty (Dick) Fleege, of Summerfield, Fla., Madonna (Joe) McCloy, of Delmar, Iona (Harold) Koppes, of Dubuque, Sister Shirley Steines, of Fort Yates, N.D., Marlene Steines, of Aurora, Colo., Darlene Sieverding and Kelma (Bob) Michels, both of Bellevue, Bonnie Charboneau, of Dubuque, and Mary Jo (Gary) Beohm, of Des Moines; Phyllis also is survived by two brothers, Milo (Arlene) Feller and Omer "Pete" (Rosie) Feller, both of Preston; and a sister in-law, Elaine Feller, of Bellevue. They were preceded in death by their parents; a son, Shawn; a granddaughter, Amanda Sparks; a great-grandson, Noah Sparks; two great-granddaughters, Liliana and Liviana Long; Merrice's three brothers-in-law, Merlin Till, Thomas Sieverding and Ray Charboneau; and Phyllis' brother, Sylvester "Shorty" Feller.
