Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City is in charge of the arrangements. Phyllis Aliene (Barnes) Huston was born Dec. 5, 1926, in Central City to Owen Carlton and Grace D. (Johnson) Barnes. She attended school in Central City and graduated with the class of 1944. She took one summer session of college classes, then taught for a year in a local country school. She married Lealdes Huston Nov. 27, 1949, in Central City and lived with Lee on a farm northeast of Central City for 53 years. She moved into town a couple of years later and in September of 2012 Cottonwood Estates became her home until May of this year. Besides being a wife and mother, Phyllis worked as a store clerk, cook at Bethesda Care Center, and at the school cafeteria in Clarks. She also spent a number of years cleaning houses for people in the community. Phyllis enjoyed bird watching, reading, sewing, crocheting, pinochle, and jigsaw puzzles in her later years. Phyllis was a 50-year member of the Methodist church and Order of the Eastern Star Ivy Chapter 210 in Clarks, where she was Worthy Matron. She also spent many years as a 4-H leader, member of the church choir and served on the Merrick County Extension Board. Survivors include her children, Claudia Gaibler and husband, Allen, of Central City, Barbara Parker and husband, Bob, of Topeka, Kan., David Huston and wife, Lorrie, of Ponca, Chris Huston and wife, Pat, of Central City and Todd Huston of Central City; seven grandchildren, Joshua and Jill Gaibler, Teri and Jason McKinzie, Amanda and Rob Lynch, Rebecca and Chris LaFontaine, Aaron, Chelsea, and Daniel Huston; and nine great-grandchildren, Jayden and Morgan Gaibler, Jordyn, Isaac and Teagan McKinzie, Grayden, Devyn and Finley Lynch, and Logan LaFontaine. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, eight siblings and a daughter, Linda Lee, in infancy in 1954.
