Phyllis was born September 13, 1926 in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Donald Edward and Alice Mae (Hesseltine) Brown. She graduated from Washington High School and attended the University of Iowa for two years. Phyllis was united in marriage to Roy Keith Hardy on March 10, 1948 in Washington. Phyllis worked as a secretary and bookkeeper before her marriage and at various times afterwards. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and was active on church committees. Phyllis was also a member of various Fortnightly departments and had been a “Gray Lady” at the Washington Hospital for several years. She served as a YMCA board member and enjoyed family, reading, playing bridge, and watching Iowa Hawkeye athletics. She is survived by her son, William Hardy of Iowa City, Iowa; son, Stephen Hardy of Des Moines, Iowa; son, Geoffrey Hardy of Silver Hill, Alabama; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
