Read More	In memory of Phyllis Beverly Auen February 20, 1937 - October 2, 2021 Phyllis Beverly Druivenga was born Feb 20, 1937 in the Carroll, Iowa hospital and passed on Oct 2, 2021 at Twilight Acres. She was the oldest daughter of John Edwin and Minerva Julia (Heim) Druivenga. She attended Jackson #3 and Levey #7 country schools and graduated from Wall Lake High School as valedictorian in 1955. She worked as Secretary of the Wall Lake Community School from May of 1955 until July 1996. In 1996, the school became WLVA and in 2011, East Sac County Community School. She was united in marriage to Virgil Lee Auen on August 7, 1955 at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake. This union was blessed with two daughters, Kathleen Lynn and Lori Lee. Phyllis and Virgil lived on farms near Wall Lake and danced at many of the local halls. They moved into Wall Lake after retirement. She enjoyed family, genealogy, cards, volunteerism, and spending the winters in Caliente Casa del Sol in Florence, Arizona. Many will remember her for her work as an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church, and officer of the Wall Lake Historical Society, Lutheran Brotherhood, Thrivent and Wall Lake Alumni Association for 24 years plus as a 4-H leader for 11 years. In Arizona, she volunteered at the Florence Senior Center, the Caliente newsletter and wrote the history of Caliente. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Kathleen (David) Auen Stienstra of Terre Haute, IN and son- in-law JR Lapel of Wall Lake, IA; sister Patricia Wilkes (Rick Miller); brother-in-law Robert Altmanshofer; grandchildren Jonathan (Abby) Lapel, Lindi (Tom) Reburn, Lacey (Ricky) Bruning, and Matthew Stienstra; great grandchildren Justin Lapel, Carter, Ellie, Parker and Paxton Reburn, Levi and Taylor Lapel; niece Jodi (Gary) Hubbard and their children Cory (Tammi) and Rob (Kate) Lynch, Chase (Jill) and Taylor Hubbard; nephew Michael (Dawn) Altmanshofer and their son Karl Altmanshofer. She was predeceased by her parents John and Minerva Druivenga, her sister Joan Altmanshofer, her husband Virgil Auen, and her younger daughter Lori Lapel. Druivenga Bride of Virgil L Auen WALL LAKE — Phyllis Beverly Druivenga, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Druivenga of Wall Lake, and Virgil Lee Auen, son of Mrs. Elnora Auen of Wall Lake, were married at 7 o'clock Sunday evening, August 7, in Peace Lutheran Church here. Mr. Druivenga gave his daughter in marriage at the double ring ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. O. E. Weiss. Roland Erickson, organist played the wedding marches. Ronald Meals sang "Because" and "The Lord's Prayer." The bride wore a white satin floor-length gown with sub-train skirted in tiers of nylon net trimmed with lace. Lace also trimmed the off-the-shoulder bodice of gathered nylon net over satin. Her fingertip veil of nylon net was caught to a crown of pearls. She wore long nylon net gloves and carried a white Bible topped with a white orchid and Lilies-of-the-valley. Attending the bride were her cousins, Bettie Carroll, maid of honor, and Doris Engelmeyer bridesmaid. Miss Carroll wore a green ballerina-length gown of taffeta and net and carried a bouquet of yellow carnations. Miss Engelmeyer's similar gown was yellow. Her flowers were green carnations. The bridegroom was attended by Albert Ricke and Gene Ruchtl. Ushers were Jack Hough Jr., cousin of the bride, and Kenneth Rohde, cousin of the bridegroom. Joan Druivenga, sister of the bride, and Joe Mallory, cousin of the bride, were candlelighters. Janet Kay Bartlett was flower girl and Terry Rohde, ring bearer. The bride's mother wore a navy crepe suit with matching accessories and the bridegroom's mother, a navy dress with white accessories. They had rubrum lily corsages. The church service was followed by a reception for 275 guests in the Wall Lake Community building. Flowers and streamers were in the colors of green and yellow. The bride's cake was cut by her aunt, Mrs. Ed Engelmeyer of Rockwell City and the bridegroom's aunt, Mrs. Frank Richardson of Wall Lake. After a week's trip to Colorado, Mr. and Mrs. Auen will live at Wall Lake. For traveling, the bride has a navy blue orlon-nylon suit dress with white accessories. The bride was graduated from Wall Lake High School in 1955 and the bridegroom, in 1951. - - - - - - - - - - -
