Description	:	Phyllis Dorlene (Hook) Pies 75, of Conrad was born December 8, 1930 in rural Grundy County, daughter of Harm G. and Martha Hook. She met Gerald Pies of Ackley while he was moving the family farm house to a new foundation. They wed on April 20, 1955 and moved to Conrad, which Phyllis chose as the location to begin their new married life. She spent the last 51 years involved in the community she adopted as a new bride. Read More	Phyllis Dorlene (Hook) Pies 75, of Conrad was born December 8, 1930 in rural Grundy County, daughter of Harm G. and Martha Hook. She met Gerald Pies of Ackley while he was moving the family farm house to a new foundation. They wed on April 20, 1955 and moved to Conrad, which Phyllis chose as the location to begin their new married life. She spent the last 51 years involved in the community she adopted as a new bride. Over the last 30 years many of you may have seen her smiling face at the cash register in the Conrad Pharmacy. She dearly loved all the contact with friends and neighbors this work provided. Getting together with friends was her main hobby and she enjoyed attending monthly Entre Nous Club and Legion Auxiliary meetings. Phyllis was a lifelong, faithful member of Colfax Center Presbyterian Church, participating in many ministries including choir, WIC and Sunday school. She had a real love for flowers and her patio and hanging baskets full of blooms will be missed by all her neighbors and those who drove by her home. She loved her family, and treasured time with them including spending Sunday afternoons with her mother prior to her death, visiting her brother and sister in law, and traveling the Southern Gospel concert circuit with her sister. She especially treasured her getaway trips to Des Moines to visit her daughter and ‘favorite' son in law. Her cheerful smile and willingness to help others will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her only child, daughter Connie Lovelady and husband Alan of Des Moines; sister Marcy Knaack and husband Bob of Gladbrook; brother Roger Hook and wife Nancy of Grundy Center; sister-in-law Arlene Pies of DeLeon, Texas, sister-in-law Shirley Smeins and husband Paul of Earlville, brother-in-law Newton Clawson of Geneva, sister-in-law Dorothy Seaton of LeMars; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Gerald in July of 1993. Services will be held at: 2:00 PM, on Monday, November 13, 2006, at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in Holland. INTERMENT will follow services in the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Holland. Visitation times are: 3 to 6 PM Sunday at our Johnston Funeral Home in Conrad, where the family will be present to greet friends. Memorials may be directed to the church in her name.
