Description	:	Phyllis Elaine Kubes, 91, of Norfolk, Nebraska, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2016, at the Plainview Manor in Plainview, Nebraska. She was born Nov. 16, 1924, the daughter of Willis Redman and Elaine Hannah (Cox) Smith in Norfolk. Phyllis married Milton Kenneth Bergman in 1945 in Stanton County. Later, they moved to Norfolk. Two sons were born to this union, Terry and Gale. The couple later divorced. She worked at Omaha Cold Storage (Henningsen). She was born Nov. 16, 1924, the daughter of Willis Redman and Elaine Hannah (Cox) Smith in Norfolk. Phyllis married Milton Kenneth Bergman in 1945 in Stanton County. Later, they moved to Norfolk. Two sons were born to this union, Terry and Gale. The couple later divorced. She worked at Omaha Cold Storage (Henningsen). Phyllis attended Norfolk Public Schools and earned her GED in her 1970’s with her son, Clair. Phyllis married Francis “Frank” Kubes. They raised six more children, Les, Kellen, Anita, Carolyn, Clair and Shelly. The couple worked on the farm until they moved to Battle Creek where they owned and operated a café in town as well as Kelly’s Steakhouse. Kelly’s was well-known for perfectly done steaks, generous servings and Kelly’s original onion rings. When the steakhouse was sold, Phyllis worked serving veterans at the Norfolk Veterans Home for many years. Phyllis was known as a hard worker, horse lover and servant to many. She loved her children and grandchildren dearly. She never knew a stranger or turned away anyone that needed help. Phyllis enjoyed vacations throughout the United States and Europe. She is survived by: her eight children; 34 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by: three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law. Funeral Service on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Norfolk.
