(Ps.116:16) "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his Saints." Phyllis was born in Madison, SD to William and Bertha Heitman, on October 3, 1913. Phyllis grew up on a farm outside of Madison, SD. She loved working outside with her father, and loved animals. Phyllis loved her pony and her cart, built especially for her by her Grandpa Mallwitz. Phyllis had many fond memories of her pony rides and cart. She liked going into town to visit her Grandma Mallwitz, and riding the cart in Parades. She went to country school and later went to Madison Central, where she graduated. She married Emmett Carr January 27, 1934, in Howard, SD. To this union eight children were born. Later, she moved to Pierre where she lived from 1955 to 2005. For many years she worked at the Terrace Motel in Pierre as a desk clerk. From 2005 to 2012, she lived in Bridgewater, SD, and then moved to Sioux Falls. Phyllis loved to play hymns on her piano and electric organ. She also loved to make dolls, doll clothing, many crafts, and enjoyed embroidering dish towels. Skipbo was her favorite game. Phyllis‘s family was the joy of her life. She enjoyed spending much time with them - especially her grandchildren. Phyllis was preceded in death by her former husband, Emmett; daughter, Phyllis Jean; son, Bob; a granddaughter, and two great-grandchildren. Phyllis is survived by six children, Gene (Carrie) of Lake Norden, Dennis (Clara) of Loveland Co, Janice Hofer of Sioux Falls, Jim (Karen) of Yankton, Margie (Lyle) Schillinger of Gillette, Wy, MaryKay (Charles) Pringle, Bridgewater, SD; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 29, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at First Assembly of God, Sioux Falls, SD, with Pastor Beard and Pastor Larry Reed officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Madison S.D. Public visitation will be on Tuesday August 28th from 10:00 am to 9:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home, Downtown in Sioux Falls, SD.
