She attended elementary schools in Conroy and North English, and graduated from North English High School in 1943. Within one week after graduation, she was married to Leo E. Jordan on June 5. She taught in the Pilot Grave and Green Valley elementary schools until the birth of her first child in 1945, and resumed teaching at the Green Center rural school in 1957. In 1960, the Jordan family moved to Phoenix, AZ, where Phyllis taught third grade and served for one year as principal at the Grace Brethren Christian Day School. In 1968, she and Leo moved 30 miles north of Phoenix to a five acre ranchette near New River where they raised Peruvian Paso horses as well as their third and most beloved "child", a collie named Caesar. During her lifetime she also served many years as a Sunday School teacher and Vacation Bible School teacher, and as a prayer warriora for her two children who seved as missionaries in Taiwan. But her favorite project has been to welcome neighborhood children into her home weekly after school for Kid's Bible Club and snacks. Phyllis' one and only textbook for the life was the Bible, which she has read from cover to cover nearly 60 times, covering six pages a day up until the last week of her life. On November 21, 2013, Phyllis gladly and eagerly went to be with the Lord Jesus, whose presence she had longed for for years. She is survived by her two children, Edwin(Eloise)Jordan of North English and Connie Jordan of New River, AZ and Shanghai, China; her sisters-in-law Clara Jordan and Frances Christian; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in March 2005, a sister Cleone Williams and brother Marion Cram. Funeral Services will be held 10 am at the Powell Funeral Home in North English on Monday, November 25, 2013, with Pastor Edwin Jordan officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Sunday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Community Cemetery, rural Deep River, Iowa. A mmemorial fund has been established for the Pleasant Grove Grace Brethren Church, rural North English.
